At Sustainable Queenstown we’re proud to celebrate local businesses stepping up and saying no to single use cups.

Our SUCfree Workplace badge is about more than a statement—it’s a commitment to shifting culture, reducing waste, and showing what’s possible when sustainability is led from within.

These workplaces have proudly committed to eliminating single use cups, and are leading the way for others to follow.

What is a SUCfree Workplace?

A SUCfree Workplace is one where staff commit to using only reusable cups for takeaway drinks whether at work or on the go. It’s about creating a culture of reuse from the inside out, with employees leading by example and helping shift everyday habits.

For cafés and hospitality venues, this is often the first step in educating and empowering staff so they can confidently engage customers and support a wider move away from single use cups.

For other types of workplaces, it might go even further—removing single-use cups from the premises entirely and embedding reusable systems as part of the way they operate.

No matter the setting, becoming a SUCfree Workplace means choosing to SIT, BYO, or BORROW and helping normalise a more sustainable future.

Why it matters?

  • In Queenstown alone, over 295,000 single use cups go to landfill each year.

  • These cups take decades to break down and contribute to climate change.

  • By going SUCfree, businesses help lead cultural change while saving costs and showing environmental leadership.
